		<description>As you know I'm in grad school now and I've been told by most people that "grades don't matter" - this is a Good Thing because the real problem is not whether grades are useful or not but whether they are applied consistently or not.  I've gone from classes that are graded obsessively on a curve, to classes where everyone gets roughly the same grade, to classes where there is no adjustment or fudge whatsoever.  You've raised a great question here, and one I am not sure I yet know my own opinion on - other than to say that within an institution, it would be ideal if all grading was done in a uniform fashion (and, if the faculty cannot agree on that particular piece, on a credit/no credit basis).</description>
