A Tribute to Scribble Space

I just bought a whiteboard. Oh, how I love whiteboards! Those great big open expanses of scribble space are truly inspiring; they free the mind to wander.

My other favorite scribble spaces:

  • my Moleskine notebook
  • a great big office desk (cleaned off regularly to remove unwanted distractions)
  • a large LCD monitor
  • Notepad++
  • 37 Signal’s Backpack, Basecamp, and Writeboard
  • Microsoft Excel (go to Options > View > Gridlines, and turn off the lines)

Bliss.

    I’d like to use OneNote more often I know lots of people who say that it has totally changed the way they take notes.

    I’ve used OneNote a bunch but seem to keep slipping back to simpler things. I’d use it more if it supported tabular data, like Excel. OneNote is awesome on a TabletPC, though, especially the ability to write notes anywhere in 2D space on the page.
